INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Gordon Heyward's 24 points and eight rebounds Saturday carried 20th-ranked Butler to a shaky 74-66 win over 15th-ranked Ohio State.
Butler held a 67-50 lead when Heyward sank a layup with 4:35 left in the second half, but a layup by Jon Diebler drew OSU within 69-66 with 55 seconds left.
Butler held on in the waning seconds.
Willie Veasley added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Butler. Matt Howard and Shelvin Mack also hit double figures for the Bulldogs (7-3), who won the battle of the boards 33-27.
William Buford led Ohio State with 20 points, seven rebounds and 3 assists. David Lighty scored 16, Dallas Lauderdale added 12 and Jeremie Simmons 11 for the Buckeyes (7-2), who played their first game without star guard Evan Turner (back fracture).
