Net-minder Patrick Lalime, making his third start this season and first since Nov. 21, when he gave up five goals at Ottawa, made 39 saves on 40 shots for the Sabres, who finished 3-2-0 on a five-game homestand that included back-to-back victories.

Chicago's goal was scored by Patrick Sharp 30 seconds into the third period.

Net-minder Cristobal Huet surrendered two goals on 33 shots for the Blackhawks, who had won three of their last four contests.

It was the first game in Buffalo for Chicago forward Patrick Kane since he and his cousin were arrested Aug. 9 and accused of assaulting a Buffalo cab driver over a disagreement concerning their fare.
