COL BKB: Georgetown 72, Butler 65

NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Greg Monroe and Austin Freeman teamed up for 42 points Tuesday, powering No. 14 Georgetown to a 72-65 win over No. 20 Butler in New York.

Monroe poured in 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Freeman was a sizzling 4-of-5 from 3-point range on his way an 18-point performance for the Hoyas (7-0), who also benefited from Jason Clark's nine points and a 43-30 rebounding advantage.

Freeman's tip-in off a miss by Julian Vaughn capped a 10-0 run halfway through the first half that saw the Hoyas erase an 11-10 deficit and take a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Monroe's layup staked Georgetown to a 39-31 lead at the halftime buzzer.

Gordon Hayward registered 24 points for Butler (6-3), which will next face Ohio State in the next round of the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. Shelvin Mack and Zach Hahn added 12 and 11 points, respectively for the Bulldogs.
