PITTSBURGH, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Andrew Alberts, Jussi Jokinen and Ray Whitney gave Carolina a three-goal lead and the Panthers held on Monday to down the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2.

The win was the first on the road this season for the Hurricanes.

Alberts and Jokinen scored in a 7-minute span in the first period and Whitney made it 3-0 early in the second.

Manny Legace kept the Penguins scoreless until Sidney Crosby registered his 20th goal of the season with 14 minutes left in the middle period. Michael Rupp added a goal for Pittsburgh in the third.

Marc-Andre Fleury turned in 21 saves for the Penguins.
