NHL: Phoenix 2, Calgary 1

GLENDALE, Ariz., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Ilya Bryzgalov outdueled Miikka Kiprusoff in a battle of hot goaltenders Thursday and Phoenix won its third in a row by edging Calgary 2-1.

Kiprusoff had turned in shutouts in his previous two starts and blanked the Coyotes in the first period Thursday.

Petr Prucha then put a slap shot past Kiprusoff midway through the second to forge a 1-1 tie and Taylor Pyatt scored with 3:29 to play in the third.

The only goal Bryzgalov allowed came from David Moss with 1 second to play remaining in the first period.

Bryzgalov made 27 saves and Kiprusoff stopped 29 shots.

Calgary had won four straight, but even with the loss, stayed a point in front of Colorado at the top of the Northwest Division. Colorado also lost Thursday to Pittsburgh.
