ALBUQUERQUE, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Darington Hobson scored 22 points Wednesday and New Mexico finished the game on a 9-2 run to defeat No. 25 California 86-78.
Roman Martinez added 16 points and his 3-pointer put the Lobos (6-0) in front for good at 77-74. Philip McDonald contributed 15 for the Lobos.

California (4-3) was paced by Jamal Boykin with 21 points and 13 rebounds. The Golden Bears have also lost to nationally ranked Syracuse and Ohio State.
New Mexico, which has yet to crack the rankings this season, will play its first nationally ranked team Dec. 12, when the Lobos host Texas A&M.
