BOSTON, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Marco Sturm scored twice in the second period to turn the game into a runaway Wednesday and Boston went on to defeat Tampa Bay 4-1.
Tim Thomas made a season-high 39 saves and Marc Savard had a goal to celebrate his new seven-year contract extension with the Bruins.

Boston has won six of its last seven and Tampa Bay has dropped six out of eight.
Thomas took a shutout deep into the third period before Jeff Halpern scored with 1:27 to play.
Mike Smith allowed all four goals on 39 shots. Mark Recchi assisted on three of the Boston goals.
Boston has won four of the last five meetings with the Lightning.
