NHL: Montreal 3, Carolina 2 (SO)

MONTREAL, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Maxim Lapierre scored in a shootout and Carey Price preserved the win with a great save Tuesday to pace the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over Carolina.

After five scoreless shootout rounds following a 2-2 overtime tie, Lapierre finally put the Canadiens on the board but it was up to Price to stop designated Carolina shooter Matt Cullen and nail down the victory. Price was fooled by Cullen, but still made an amazing skate save.

Andrei Kostitsyn and Max Pacioretty each scored in regulation time for the Habs, while Price finished with 30 saves. Montreal ended a three-game home losing streak.

The Hurricanes, who fell to 1-5-2 in November, got goals from Brandon Sutter and Jussi Jokinen.
