NHL: New York Rangers 7, Toronto 2

NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Dan Girardi and Sean Avery both scored twice Monday to lead the New York Rangers in a 7-2 victory over Toronto.

Wade Redden had a goal and two assists, Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist and Ryan Callahan had a goal for the Rangers, who have won five straight for the first time since a five-game winning streak to start the 2008-09 season.


New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist blocked 27-of-29 shots.

Alexei Ponikarovsky and Jason Blake each scored for Toronto, which has lost all of its first five games this season. Vesa Toskala allowed seven goals on 33 shots.
