COL FB: Virginia Tech 48, Boston Col. 14

BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Two touchdown passes by Tyrod Taylor helped stake No. 5 Virginia Tech to a 34-point halftime lead Saturday en route to a 48-14 crushing of Boston College.

Virginia Tech (5-1) captured its fifth straight game after a season-opening loss to Alabama and stayed unbeaten in three Atlantic Coast Conference outings. Boston College slipped to 4-2 overall and to 2-2 in league play.

Ryan Williams ran for 159 yards on 18 carries and scored on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter that gave the Hokies a 17-0 lead.

Taylor threw only 10 passes, but two of them went for touchdowns -- 24 yards to Danny Coale in the first period and 41 yards to Jarrett Boykin in the second.

Rashad Carmichael contributed a 22-yard interception return for a score in the second quarter.

Boston College quarterback Dave Shinskie completed only one pass in 12 tries and was intercepted twice before being replaced in the fourth quarter.
