MLB: Philadelphia 9, Florida 3 (1st game)

MIAMI, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Joe Blanton gave up two hits in seven shutout innings Tuesday to pitch Philadelphia to a 9-3 win over Florida in the opener of a doubleheader.

Blanton (11-7), who struck out nine, won for the fourth time in his last five decisions and ran a scoreless streak to 13 innings over his last two starts.

Ryan Howard hit a two-run single as part of Philadelphia's five-run eighth inning and had three RBI for the Phillies, who have won eight of nine. Raul Ibanez hit his 32nd home run of the season.

Florida's Josh Johnson (15-5) struck out 10 over five innings but gave up four runs and seven hits in the loss. Burke Badenhop came on to allow an additional four runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Dan Uggla had a two-run single and Hanley Ramirez an RBI double in the Marlins' eighth inning.
