ASU kicker Weber out 4-6 weeks

TEMPE, Ariz., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Arizona State's Thomas Weber, the nation's top kicker two seasons ago, is expected to miss several weeks with a torn tendon in his kicking leg, his coach says.

Sun Devils Coach Dennis Erickson said in his weekly radio show with KTAR that Weber will likely miss the next five or six games after a magnetic resonance imaging exam Monday revealed the injury in the quadriceps/groin area of his leg.

As a freshman in 2007, Weber hit 24-of-25 field goal attempts and 46-of-48 extra-point attempts to win the Lou Groza Award as the nation's top kicker. Last year, he made 19-of-25 field goal attempts and 29-of-30 point-after tries.

He made 5-of-6 field goals in Arizona State's 2009 opener against Idaho State, but sat out last Saturday's game against Louisiana-Monroe when he was replaced by freshman walk-on Bobby Wenzig.

Wenzig will be ASU's kicker Saturday at Georgia.
