CINCINNATI, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Kip Wells limited Florida to a run and five hits in seven-plus innings Sunday, leading the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-1 win over the Marlins.
He was relieved by Danny Herrera when he lost a possible shutout on Brett Carroll's RBI single with no outs in the top of the eighth.
Wells (2-4) threw 92 pitches with no walks and two strikeouts and was helped by two double plays and 12 ground ball outs.
Corky Miller had two hits -- one a three-run homer.
Joey Votto hit a two-run homer.
Drew Stubbs and Brandon Phillips had two hits and one RBI apiece, while Scott Rolen had one RBI for the Reds, who earned a split in the four-game series.
Four others had one hit for the Marlins, who had won two in a row.
The losing pitcher was starter Sean West (7-6).
