MLB: Toronto 10, N.Y. Yankees 4

NEW YORK, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A brawl between Yankees and Blue Jays players cleared the benches Tuesday before Toronto went on to win 10-4.

New York's Mark Melancon hit Aaron Hill in the back with a pitch in the eighth inning. Jesse Carlson retaliated by throwing behind Jorge Posada in the home half.

Posada drew a walk and eventually scored on Brett Gardner's double. As Posada was crossing home, he brushed past Carlson. Then Carlson said something to Posada, who rushed back, and the benches cleared.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi had a welt under his left eye and a cut on his ear after he was accidentally hit by Blue Jays infielder John McDonald, who appeared to be trying to pull players away from home plate. Carlson had a big bruise on the left side of his forehead.

Posada and Carlson were the only ones thrown out. It was Posada's first ejection since August 2007.
