MLB: Phil. 5, N.Y. Mets 4 (1st game)

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Shane Victorino hit a two-run home run Sunday to help Philadelphia edge the New York Mets 5-4 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

The homer gave the Phillies a 4-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Ben Francisco had two hits and an RBI for the Phillies.

Winner Kyle Kendrick (1-1) gave up two runs and seven hits in 7 1/3 innings.

New York's Anderson Hernandez hit a two-run homer.

Josh Thole had four hits and one RBI and Jeremy Reed added an RBI single for the Mets.

Losing pitcher John Maine (5-5), making his first start since June 6 due to a shoulder injury, yielded a run and two hits in three innings before two relievers finished the contest.
