SAN DIEGO, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Billy Volek threw an early touchdown pass and Nate Keading kicked four field goals Friday in San Diego's 26-7 exhibition victory over San Francisco.

Volek led San Diego on a 58-yard march on the game's first possession, capped by a 39-yard scoring pass to Kassim Osgood.

The only other San Diego touchdown came on a 15-yard throw from Charlie Whitehurst to Kory Sperry in the fourth quarter.

Shaun Hill, named San Francisco's starting quarterback midway through the exhibition season, went 3-of-4 for 20 yards while playing just one series. Regular San Diego starter Philip Rivers did not play.

San Francisco (3-1) failed in its bid for a perfect exhibition record. The 49ers will start their season at 2008 NFC champion Arizona. San Diego (2-2) will play its opener at Oakland.

Miami, Baltimore and Seattle were the only unbeaten teams during the preseason. Arizona, Kansas City and Carolina lost all their games.
