MLB: Boston 6, Tampa Bay 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Jason Bay's two hits and two RBI Thursday led the Boston Red Sox to a 6-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Both RBI came on his two-out, first-inning double.

Later, Kevin Youkilis had three hits and one RBI and Victor Martinez had two hits and one RBI. Rocco Baldelli and Mike Lowell each batted in a run.

Winner Clay Buchholz (4-3) gave up three runs and six hits in six innings for the Red Sox, who won two of the three games in the series.

Closer Jonathan Papelbon earned his 34th save, striking out two of the three batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth.

Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria had two of Tampa Bay's six hits and one RBI.

Ben Zobrist and Gregg Zaun had one RBI apiece for the Rays, who have split their last eight games.

The losing pitcher was starter David Price (7-7).
