Jones, Ingram to play for Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- The Alabama Crimson Tide will have two of its top offensive players available Saturday in its season opener against Virginia Tech.

The Tuscaloosa News reports the school learned Wednesday the NCAA has reinstated sophomore wide receiver Julio Jones and sophomore running back Mark Ingram.

Alabama had declared the players ineligible after learning they had gone on a fishing cruise this spring and reported the matter to the NCAA. The school then appealed for reinstatement, which was predicated on the players repaying the cost of the trip.

Jones had 58 receptions for 924 yards and four touchdowns while starting every game last season. He broke all of the school's receiving records for a freshman.

Ingram, who piled up 728 yards on 143 carries with a school-record 12 touchdowns as a freshman, has been tabbed the Tide's primary rusher, taking over from Glen Coffee, now with the NFL's San Francisco 49ers.

The Top 10 clash between fifth-ranked Alabama and seventh-ranked Virginia Tech will be Saturday evening at the Georgia Dome.
