ALLEN PARK, Mich., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The Detroit Lions patched up their quarterback corps Tuesday, signing Brooks Bollinger after Drew Stanton had an arthroscopic procedure on a knee.

Stanton was hurt Saturday in a pre-season game against Indianapolis.

The Lions also said Daunte Culpepper received eight stitches to close a cut on a toe that he injured Saturday in an accident at his home. He did not practice Monday and his status for Detroit's final pre-season Thursday against Buffalo has not been determined.

Culpepper is competing against No. 1 draft pick Matthew Stafford for the starting quarterback job.

Bollinger, 29, was with Dallas last season, completing 10-of-17 passes for 71 yards with one touchdown and an interception in two games. He started one game in two seasons with Minnesota and nine for the New York Jets in 2005.

Detroit also released guard Terrence Metcalf.
