MLB: Cincinnati 4, Pittsburgh 3 (1st game)

CINCINNATI, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Darnell McDonald scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth Monday and the Cincinnati Reds beat Pittsburgh 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Jesse Chavez (0-4) came on for the Pirates in the bottom of the ninth and gave up back-to-back one-out singles to McDonald and Craig Tatum. McDonald went to third on a fly out and slid safely into home when Chavez unloaded a wild pitch.

Drew Stubbs had a solo homer and scored two runs, and Drew Sutton and Scott Rolen each drove in a run for the Reds.

Cincinnati starter Kip Wells allowed two runs on two hits with four walks in six innings. Nick Masset (5-1) pitched a scoreless ninth to get the win.

Ronny Cedeno was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for the Pirates, who have lost four in a row. Jason Jaramillo drove in two runs and Daniel McCutchen drove in the other run for Pittsburgh.
