Hur wins playoff for first LPGA victory

NORTH PLAINS, Ore., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Rookie M.J. Hur sank a 7-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff Sunday and won the Safeway Classic in Oregon, her first title on the LPGA Tour.

Hur, who shot a 7-under-par 65 in the final round, defeated Suzann Pettersen and Michele Redman in the playoff after the three tied at 13-under-par 203 in regulation play.

Pettersen and Redman each carded a 67 in the last round. Redman dropped out on the first playoff hole and Pettersen missed a 20-foot putt on the second extra hole before Hur rolled in her winner.

"I'm working very hard," Hur said. "Before this tournament, I went to Korea, but I practiced a lot. That's why I had a good score this tournament."

Hur won $255,000.
