PHOENIX, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Alex Romero finished off a seven-run third inning with a three-run homer Friday to send Arizona coasting to a 14-7 win over Houston.
Romero's home run was the first of the year for Romero and the second of his major-league career. He has spent most of this season with Class AAA Reno.
The Diamondbacks pounded out 16 hits in the slugfest.
Arizona sent 11 men to the plate in its big third inning, and the first seven reached base.
Miguel Montero then doubled home Upton, and Gerardo Parra's double drove in Reynolds and Montero.
A single by Brandon Allen moved Parra to third, and both runners scored on Romero's homer.
Max Scherzer (8-8) took advantage of the offensive outburst to get the win. He gave up five runs on five hits in six innings.
