MLB: Cincinnati 4, Pittsburgh 1

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Homer Bailey gave up a run and four hits in seven innings Sunday, helping the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-1 win over Pittsburgh.

Bailey had gone four starts since his last victory, a 6-4 over San Diego July 27. He faced Pittsburgh for the first time in Sunday's win.

Brandon Phillips led Cincinnati with two hits and two RBI. Joey Votto had two hits and one RBI.

Jonny Gomes had one RBI, while Paul Janish added two hits for the Reds, who averted a three-game sweep, winning for just the second time in their last nine games.

Closer Francisco Cordero registered his 26th save with a scoreless ninth.

Delwyn Young drove in a run with a fifth-inning single for Pittsburgh, which had a five-game winning streak snapped.

The losing pitcher was starter Kevin Hart (4-3), who gave up three runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts over five innings.
