SAN ANTONIO, July 17 (UPI) -- The San Antonio Spurs have signed Pittsburgh power forward DeJuan Blair, their second round pick at the NBA Draft in June.
No terms were disclosed, but his availability at No. 37 overall shocked San Antonio officials because Blair, the co-Big East Player of the Year last season, was expected to be chosen much earlier.
The San Antonio Express-News reported Blair's deal is believed to be worth $2.7 million over four years, and that he signed it in Las Vegas Thursday where the Spurs have entered a team in the Las Vegas Summer League.
"It's nice to have it taken care of," Blair told the newspaper. "It was just a matter of when."
Blair was fourth in the nation last season with 12.3 rebounds per game.
He also averaged 15.7 points in 35 games.
He spent two seasons with the Panthers and was the Big East's Rookie of the Year in 2007-08.
