Steve McNair death ruled a murder-suicide

NASHVILLE, July 8 (UPI) -- Nashville police said Wednesday the shooting death of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair last weekend was part of a murder-suicide.

His gunshot-riddled body was found Saturday at a Nashville condominium with 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi, a female friend.

Police said Kazemi bought the semi-automatic pistol that killed McNair two days before the killings, and confirmed Wednesday it was found underneath her body.

At a news conference, Police Chief Ronal Serpas said she shot McNair four times to the chest and head while he slept on the couch, then sat down next to him and shot herself in the temple.

The Nashville Tennessean reported she saw signs McNair may have been involved with another woman and might have been worried about making rent payments and payments on two cars, both registered in his name.

"We do believe there was evidence that she was spinning out of control," Serpas said.

McNair, the NFL's co-MVP in 2003 while with the Titans, retired in April 2008 while with Baltimore, ending a 13-year career.
