The biggest surprise came when unseeded Alex Bogomolov ousted fifth-seeded Arnaud Clement 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

There had been 10 matches on the schedule, but most of them were halted in progress or never got started.

Among those having their match delayed to Thursday was second-seeded Fabrice Santoro. The two-time defending champion was tied at 3-3 in the first set with Flavio Cipolla when play was halted.

It was the second straight day the schedule had been interrupted by showers. No matches could be completed Tuesday because of the bad weather.
