SAN FRANCISCO, July 8 (UPI) -- Barry Zito pitched 8 1/3 shutout innings to lead the San Francisco Giants past the Florida Marlins Tuesday.
Juan Uribe provided the scoring punch with a two-run homer for the Giants, who managed just five hits of their own in a game that wrapped up in a smart 2 hours, 5 minutes.
Zito (5-8) had an efficient four-hit outing that included six strikeouts and one walk. Sergio Romo came on to retire the final two Florida batters to collect his first save.
Josh Johnson (7-2) took the loss on three runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Bengie Molina had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning that scored Randy Winn and gave San Francisco a 1-0 lead.
Uribe homered in the fifth after Edgar Renteria singled. Renteria had two hits for the Giants.
