SEATTLE, June 25 (UPI) -- Franklin Gutierrez broke an eighth-inning tie with a solo homer Wednesday, giving Seattle a 4-3 victory over San Diego.
The Mariners prevented the Padres from winning their third in a row by overcoming an early two-run deficit and then getting the key blast from Gutierrez, his seventh homer of the season.
Sean White (2-0), who worked the top of the eighth, got the win. White had a 17-inning scoreless streak halted in his previous outing last Saturday.
David Aardsma picked up his 15th save by striking out two in the ninth. The home run by Gutierrez came off Edward Mujica (2-3).
Kevin Kouzmanoff gave the Padres the lead in the second with a two-run homer, but Russell Branyan connected on a three-run shot in the bottom half of the inning.
