MLB: Kansas City 5, Arizona 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 17 (UPI) -- Gil Meche's second consecutive shutout led the Kansas City Royals to a 5-0 win over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday.

Meche, who blanked Cleveland over seven innings in his last start, struck out six and walked one in his first complete game this season.

Mark Teahen had three hits and an RBI to lead the Royals' offense.

Doug Davis (3-8) took the inter-league loss. He gave up four runs -- three earned -- on six hits over 5 2/3 innings.

While Meche struck out 11 in his last start, he was plenty effective Tuesday against the slumping Diamondbacks, who have lost seven of their last 10 games. He allows only three hits in his first seven innings and did not allow a runner past second base.

Kansas City jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a bases-loaded fielder's choice by Miguel Olivo followed by a one-run single by David DeJesus.

A sacrifice fly off the bat of Billy Butler in the fifth made it 3-0, and Teahen drove in the fourth run on a single in the sixth.

Alberto Callaspo singled in the final run in the seventh.

Meche, meanwhile, allowed one base runner in the final three innings. Ryan Roberts singled in the eighth and was promptly thrown out attempting to steal second.
