MLB: Boston 6, Florida 1

BOSTON, June 17 (UPI) -- Dustin Pedroia drove in three runs Wednesday and Brad Penny allowed only an unearned run in bringing Boston a 6-1 inter-league victory over Florida.

Pedroia singled in two runs in the fourth to give the Red Sox a 4-1 lead and added an RBI base hit in the eighth for the final run of the game.

Boston won its second straight over the Marlins and extended its lead over the New York Yankees to three games atop the American League East.

Penny (6-2) worked only five innings, giving up three hits and walking four while striking out three. Four Boston relievers combined to throw four scoreless innings, with Jonathan Papelbon working the ninth in a non-save situation.

Jacoby Ellsbury added a solo homer in the seventh for Boston, his third blast this season.
