ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 15 (UPI) -- A test on Jason Isringhausen's right elbow Monday revealed a ligament tear that will require the veteran reliever to have season-ending surgery.
Isringhausen, who missed the end of the 2008 season after surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his elbow, left Saturday's game with two outs in the ninth inning after throwing a wild pitch.
Isringhausen, 36, is seven saves short of 300 for his career. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday and moved to the 60-day DL Monday prior to the diagnosis. A date for the surgery has yet to be determined.
This season, Isringhausen was 0-1 with a 2.25 earned run average in nine games. He spent the previous seven seasons with St. Louis and also played for Oakland and the New York Mets, dating back to 1995. He was a two-time All-Star (2000, 2005) as a reliever.
