HALLE, Germany, June 14 (UPI) -- Native Tommy Haas banged out a 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 victory over Serbia's Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany.
Haas had reached a pair of quarterfinals previously this season, but Sunday he won his first title since the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships at Memphis in February 2007.
The 31-year-old native of Hamburg had never won a grass-court tournament before and has now won titles on all tennis surfaces (hard court, clay and grass) in his 14-year career.
After a tough tiebreaker win in the second set, he composed himself and dominated the third, winning six of its seven games.
"It gives me confidence going into (Wimbledon)," Haas said.
His victory over the top-seeded Djokovic and 12th career title was worth $160,000.
