Hunter's home run came in the first inning after Abreu had already driven in a run with a single. Abreu also had RBI singles in the fourth and eighth innings.

Los Angeles broke a 4-4 tie by scoring five times in the fourth, when Kendry Morales hit a solo homer.

Matt Palmer (6-0) got the win by surviving six innings. He gave up three earned runs on 10 hits in his return to the rotation.

Although Palmer won his first five starts this season, he was dispatched to the bullpen when Kelvim Escobar returned from the disabled list. After Escobar made one start, however, he was sent to the bullpen to work on his arm strength and Palmer was given his first work since May 30.

San Diego starter Chad Gaudin (2-5) was roughed up for eight runs on 10 hits over three innings.
