MLB: Cincinnati 4, Washington 2 (12 inn.)

WASHINGTON, June 11 (UPI) -- Jonny Gomes had an RBI double with two out in the 12th Wednesday and then scored on a Jerry Hairston single, giving Cincinnati a 4-2 victory over Washington.

The Nationals scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning after a two-hour rain delay, forcing extra innings. Their comeback was wiped out in the 12th, however, leading to their third straight loss and their 42nd setback in 57 games this year.

Ron Villone (3-1) came on for his first inning of work and began the 12th by walking Jay Bruce. Villone then misplayed a ground ball by Alex Gonzalez, putting runners on first and second.

Bruce moved to third on a passed ball and, after Jason Bergmann relieved Villone, Ryan Hanigan bounced into a double play.

Bruce was held at third on the play, giving Washington a chance to get out of the inning, but Gomes doubled to put the Reds in front and scored on Hairston's base hit.

Nick Masset (4-0) worked the 10th and 11th innings to get the win and David Weathers, in his 24th relief appearance of the year, came on in the 12th to record his first save.
