CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 10 (UPI) -- NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Jeremy Mayfield is involved in a legal battle over his suspension for a reported positive test for methamphetamine.

There was a gag order on the proceedings in North Carolina Wednesday but a report in ESPN The Magazine said Mayfield flunked the random urine test on May 1.

Mayfield filed a lawsuit against NASCAR on the grounds the positive result was caused by an unfortunate mixture of an over-the-counter allergy drug and prescription medication he takes for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD.

A Mecklenburg County Superior Court judge late last month rejected Mayfield's request for a restraining order blocking the indefinite suspension. NASCAR filed a countersuit late last week alleging breach of contract and defrauding the organization out of $150,000 in prize money.
