Report: 76ers hire Jordan as new coach

PHILADELPHIA, May 29 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia 76ers hired Eddie Jordan on Friday to be the team's new head coach, a report on csnphilly.com said.

The report said the 76ers and Jordan have agreed to a three-year deal. A news conference is expected to be called on Saturday to make the announcement official.

Jordan was in his sixth season as coach of the Washington Wizards when he was fired last November. He has a career coaching record of 230-288.

Jordon, 54, replaces Tony DiLeo, who was the team's interim coach after Maurice Cheeks was fired early in the 2008-09 season. The 76ers got off to a 9-14 start under Cheeks. DiLeo had a 32-27 mark.

Philadelphia recorded its first non-losing season in four years. The 76ers made the playoffs, but were eliminated in the first round by Orlando.
