NEW YORK, May 29 (UPI) -- Omir Santos hit a homer in the fifth and drove in the game-winner with a single in the 11th Friday, giving the New York Mets a 2-1 victory over Florida.

Santos tied the contest with his third home run of the season and it remained a 1-1 game until the Mets got to Brian Sanches (1-1) in the 11th.

Gary Sheffield opened the 11th with a single, stole second and went to third on a throwing error by catcher Ronny Paulino. Santos followed by hitting the first pitch from Sanches into left-center.

That made a winner out of Pedro Feliciano (2-1), who retired the only batter he faced in the top of the 11th. Six New York pitchers combined to allow six hits and a run over 11 innings while striking out nine.

The Marlins scored on a sacrifice fly by Dan Uggla in the fourth.
