MLB: Arizona 5, Atlanta 2

PHOENIX, May 29 (UPI) -- Dan Haren struck out eight over eight innings Thursday and was supported by an 11-hit attack in lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-2 victory over Atlanta.

Haren (4-4) lost his first three starts of the season despite allowing only four earned runs. The Diamondbacks, however, came through with enough offense Thursday to hand the Braves their fourth consecutive loss.

Arizona gave Haren the lead with a four-run fourth inning and he wound up allowing seven hits and two runs while throwing 113 pitches. Chad Qualls worked a perfect ninth for his 12th save.

Derek Lowe (6-3) took the loss, although only three of the five runs he gave up were earned.

Justin Upton singled to open the Arizona fourth and advanced when Stephen Drew was safe on second baseman Kelly Johnson's fielding error. Mark Reynolds doubled home both Upton and Drew, and then scored on a single by Eric Byrnes. Chris Snyder singled Byrnes to third and Byrnes scored from there on a base hit by Ryan Roberts.
