Dallas Braden (4-5) gave up three runs on nine hits over seven innings for the win while Miguel Batista (2-1) took the loss in relief by allowing all four Oakland runs in the seventh. Andrew Bailey recorded his second save.

After getting the first batter, Batista surrendered a single to Rajai Davis, walked Jack Hannahan and then gave up a bloop RBI single to Orlando Cabrerra. After walking Kurt Suzuki to load the bases, Batista was pulled in favor of Mark Lowe who got Jack Cust out but then walked in a run before giving up Giambi's two-run single.

The Mariners had taken a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning and another in the seventh on an RBI single by Ichiro Suzuki, who extended his hitting streak to 20 games.
