T-Wolves hire Kahn to run team

MINNEAPOLIS, May 21 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves have settled on David Kahn as their new president of basketball operations, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Thursday.

The NBA club is to formally introduce Kahn at a noon news conference Friday, the newspaper said.

Kahn, 47, spent nine years with the Indiana Pacers, including four as general manager. He left Indiana in 2004 and has been working with the NBA's D-league, where he owned as many as four teams and hired nine head coaches.

First up on Kahn's to-do list is expected to be settling on a coach for next season. Kevin McHale finished up this past season in the post after being relieved of his duties as vice president of basketball operations.

McHale has been ambivalent about whether he wants to return.
