DETROIT, May 20 (UPI) -- Wilkin Ramirez and Brandon Inge both homered during a four-run sixth Wednesday and Detroit, despite hitting into a triple play, defeated Texas 5-3.
Ramirez broke a 1-1 tie with his first major league homer and Inge delivered a two-run shot later in the inning, giving the Tigers their fifth straight win. Texas has dropped two in a row on the heels of a seven-game winning streak.
Justin Verlander (4-2) earned the win, allowing a run on three hits and striking out eight over six innings. He is 5-1 against Texas in seven lifetime starts. Fernando Rodney picked up his seventh save with a perfect ninth.
Matt Harrison (4-3) was charged with five runs on nine hits in five-plus innings.
The Rangers' triple play came in the fourth. The Tigers had Inge on second and Ryan Rayburn on first and both runners took off with the pitch on a Harrison offering to Gerald Laird.
Laird, however, hit a liner to second baseman Ian Kinsler, who flipped the ball to shortstop Elvis Andrus to double off Inge. Andrus then tagged Raburn for the triple play. It was the first by Texas in seven years and the first against the Tigers in three seasons.
