MADRID, May 15 (UPI) -- No. 1 ranked Dinara Safina advanced in straight sets but fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic was ousted Friday at the $4.5 million Madrid Open.
Safina, who won the WTA event last week and was a finalist in the tournament the week before, defeated Alona Bondarenko 6-4, 6-3 despite six double faults. Even giving away those points she won 55 percent of the points on serve in the quarterfinal match.
