SYRACUSE, N.Y., May 14 (UPI) -- Greg Paulus, who played basketball at Duke for four seasons, said Thursday he would play football at Syracuse in the fall.

Paulus graduated from Duke last weekend and said he would enroll at Syracuse as a graduate student. He will need a waiver from the NCAA in order to play football at Syracuse.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Paulus was a national player of the year as a high school quarterback at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, N.Y. He worked out for the Green Bay Packers in April and also visited Michigan and Nebraska before settling on Syracuse.

"My heart and my gut told me Syracuse was the best place for me," Paulus said.

His high school teams amassed a 42-3 record under Paulus. He set six New York state records, including 11,763 yards passing.

The Syracuse Orange were 3-9 last season and new Coach Doug Marrone said redshirt freshman Ryan Nassib was his starter.
