MLB: Baltimore 5, Minnesota 4

BALTIMORE, May 7 (UPI) -- Lou Montanez singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Thursday and the Baltimore Orioles survived a 14-hit Minnesota attack to down the Twins 5-4.

Melvin Mora hit a two-run homer in the second and Aubrey Huff did the same in the third to stake the Orioles to a 4-2 lead, but Minnesota came back to tie the game going into the eighth.

With Jose Mijares (0-1) on the mound, Mora reached on a one-out single and went to second when Ty Wigginton produced a two-out base hit. Montanez, who came into the game batting .185 with just five hits on the season, delivered Mora with a single to left.

George Sherrill came on in the ninth to record his fifth save and preserve the victory for Jim Johnson (2-0), who allowed a single in his only inning of work.

Minnesota lost for the fifth time in six games.
