CLEVELAND, April 27 (UPI) -- Jason Bay hit a three-run homer off Kerry Wood in the ninth Monday and the Boston Red Sox beat Cleveland 3-1 for their 11th straight victory.
Tim Wakefield, coming off two straight complete games, gave up just one hit and four walks with five strikeouts in seven innings. Manny Delcarmen (1-0) got the win after a perfect eighth and Jonathan Papelbon got his fifth save.
Wood (0-1) came on in the ninth in relief of Cleveland starter Cliff Lee, who gave up five hits with no walks and five strikeouts in eight scoreless innings. Bay drove a fastball into the left-field seats for his fifth homer of the year.
Papelbon, working the bottom of the ninth, allowed back-to-back singles and an out later Mark DeRosa singled in Shin-Soo Choo. Papelbon struck out Kelly Shoppach and got Ben Francisco to foul out to first to finish off the Indians.
