The report added that he was taken to the intensive care unit at Mercy Regional Health Center Saturday night.

The 87-year-old Winter was in Manhattan this weekend after leaving LA's playoff series against the Utah Jazz to attend a basketball reunion his former Kansas State compatriots.

He coached the Wildcats from 1953-1968 after a two-year stint as a KSU assistant and also has been called the top authority on basketball's "Triangle Offense."

"I've been in touch with the family and they feel relatively at ease with the situation, as difficult as it could have been," LA Coach Phil Jackson told the Los Angeles Daily News before Saturday's 108-94 win over the Jazz in Salt Lake City. "I'm happy to say that, and they've basically said, 'Take your mind off this and put it where it belongs right now.'"
