NHL: Boston 5, Montreal 1

BOSTON, April 18 (UPI) -- Marc Savard had two goals and two assists Saturday to help the Boston Bruins beat Montreal 5-1 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference playoff series.

The victory gave Boston a 2-0 lead heading to Montreal for Game 3 Monday.

Savard started the scoring with a power-play goal at 9:59 of the first period. He scored his second power-play goal at 8:13 of the second and assisted on goals by Shane Hnidy and Michael Ryder (power play).

Ryder also had one assist, while Tim Thomas stopped 29-of-30 shots for the Bruins.

Boston rookie defenseman Matt Hunwick missed the game after having his spleen removed at Massachusetts General Hospital. He had cited abdominal discomfort following a team meeting Saturday morning.

Montreal's lone goal was scored by Alexei Kovalev 46 seconds into the second period.

Carey Price was beaten five times on 26 shots before he was replaced by Jaroslav Halak in the third.
