MLB: Kansas City 12, Texas 3

ARLINGTON, Texas, April 18 (UPI) -- Coco Crisp and Mike Jacobs both hit three-run homers Friday, powering the Kansas City Royals to a 12-3 blasting of Texas.

Gil Meche calmed down the Texas bats, which had produced 19 runs in the Rangers' most recent outing Wednesday. Meche (1-0) scattered six hits and struck out six over six-plus innings.

Crisp hit his homer in the second inning after Mark Teahen's solo shot earlier in the frame, and Jacobs delivered his blast in the eighth to make it 12-0.

Matt Harrison (0-2) gave up six runs on eight hits and four walks to take the loss.

Hank Blalock, Marlon Byrd and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit solo home runs for the Texas.

The Rangers' Ian Kinsler walked and bunted for a single in his first two plate appearances, but flied out in the fifth to end his consecutive on-base streak at nine at-bats.
