The 6-foot-1 inch Paulus started three straight seasons for Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski before he was a reserve during the 2008-09 season.
Paulus was the Gatorade National Player of the Year at quarterback for Christian Brothers Academy in New York, and has one year of eligibility left for college football.
His meeting with Rodriguez occurred Tuesday in Ann Arbor, after which he watched practice.
In high school, Paulus threw for 11,763 yards and 152 touchdowns in 45 games and led the school to a 42-3 record in four seasons.
After high school, he was targeted by several large football programs, and worked out for Green Bay in Durham last week.
The Wolverines went 3-9 overall (2-6 Big Ten) last season and next season's quarterback contenders are freshmen Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson, and junior Nick Sheridan.
