Mark Recchi scored and Manny Fernandez let in six goals on 34 shots for the Bruins (52-19-10), in a loss that ensures the San Jose Sharks will win the President's Trophy for posting the best regular-season record in the NHL.

It remained to be seen whether Boston will met Montreal or the New York Rangers in the first round of the playoffs.

The Sabres took control early, scoring four first-period goals.
